The Company’s brief is to promote industry, tourism and regional development in the Shannon Region, which covers an area of some 10,000 sq. kilometres spanning counties Clare, Limerick, North Tipperary, South Offaly and North Kerry, and has a population of over 407,000.

The mission statement of Shannon Development is “Pioneering Regional Development for the Knowledge Age”, and one of its key activities includes developing the Shannon Development Knowledge Network – a network of leading edge technology business locations with direct linkages to third level education institutions. This network includes Birr Technology Centre.

Birr Technology Centre is a modernised mill building on an attractive riverside site in the heart of Birr, Ireland’s Georgian heritage town. The focus of the Birr Technology Centre is to nurture and grow new industry in sectors such as software, multi media and e- commerce.
