Local Agenda 21
Sustainable Development/Local Agenda 21
The Authority through CAAS Environmental Services has developed a framework for the four counties to assist in the Agenda 21 process, this framework provides:
- A summary document for Developing a Local Agenda 21 Strategy for the Midland Region
- Review of Regional and County Development Plans According to the Principles of Sustainable Development
- A report on Regional Indicators of Sustainability for the Midland Region.
- The final element addressed the awareness and education needs of staff and Councillors and training sessions were held for senior management and the elected Councillors in the four local authorities;
Under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 2000, sustainable development was enshrined as a principle to guide all future developments under the planning code.
The Authority will continue to assist, support and promote actions to improve the embedding of sustainable development in all strategies and plans at regional and local level.
